I got Ocean Vuong’s first novel, “On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous", from a marketing event held by a fragrance brand. It was a surprise attack because I wasn't prepared to go through this reading journey when I picked it. The novel is poetic while it mixes everything a sensitive third generation boy of war refugee family has been through growing up. Vietnam War, refugees, immigrants, mother tongue, mother and child, intergenerational inheritance, same-sex love, body and intimacy, these are all you thought you understand but you don’t. Believe me, it will stimulate many indescribable feelings.
